Classroom Observations

  • How does teacher monitor student behaviour?

The teachers monitored student behaviour by visually scanning the group; as the group was quite large there were 4 teachers monitoring behaviour including, the two in charge teachers a supply teacher and myself. The group was sat down when the teacher was explaining the task as this gave every student a clear visual of the teacher talking. The four teachers were spread out amongst the group to monitor all corners of the group.

  • Where does the teacher stand the majority of the time?

The teacher in charge of the lesson would stand at the front of the group and direct the lesson from there. The other teachers assisting in the lesson would stand spread out amongst the group.
  • How is transition between tasks handled?

The transition of tasks was handled with one teacher preparing the next task and the other in charge teacher would be informing the students of the next task. That way by the time the task was set up the students already had an idea what was expected.
  • What happens when some students finish a task early?

For this particular task students who had completed their run used the time in between to recover from the 100 metre sprint.
